| Ann Wakefield, Notarial Archives | The Notarial Archives is looking for two archival storage areas near each other, each comprised of raw storage space for 5,000 linear feet of shelving, assuming a shelf height of 17 inches, with compact shelving installation a possibility. The geographic location needs to be (first choice) the metropolitan New Orleans area -- on the Northshore or in Jefferson Parish -- and (second choice) in Baton Rouge. One space is for relatively inactive storage, and the other space would be for materials that receive active public use.
Please contact annwake@aol.com if you have appropriate space to lease.

| Mark Cave | | I'm confident that HNOC's buildings in the Quarter survived the storm, but I'm concerned about the situation now. If anyone can make contact with those in charge of the National Guard troops in New Orleans, and make them aware of the importance of our buildings at 410 Chartres and 533 Royal. They might be able to cast a more watchful eye on them. | | 2005-09-02 21:35:11 |
| Susan Tucker | | As Ann Wakefield and a number of others have mentioned, there is a great need for us to be allowed into the city to go to our repositories and assess damage. If possible, could the NHPRC Advisory Committee here in the State, the State Archives, the State Office for Culture and Tourism, and the Governor's Office help with this next week? I know that the latter is quite busy now -- the lives of people in NO are, of course, priority -- but next week, if this is settled, we need to act very quickly. What might work would be a bus from Baton Rouge of various archivists, librarians, and museum curators – dropped around the city and then picked up again. We could begin with a report of each repository and a united plan for conservation needs. This would help everyone begin to consider recovery. I can be reached, by the way, at susanntucker@hotmail.com. Tara, if you have access to Lance Query, perhaps he too could help with such an effort. Any ideas how to begin this effort are needed now.... | | 2005-09-02 16:39:12 |
